Vedic Maths For Kids ( Addition )

Vedic Maths offers some unique techniques for addition that can simplify the process, especially with larger numbers.

1. Nikhilam Sutra (All from 9 and the last from 10)

This method is particularly useful when adding numbers that are close to a power of 10. For example:

Adding 98 and 47:

  1. Adjust to the nearest base (e.g., 100):
    For 98, the base is 100. 100 - 98 = 2
    For 47, the base is 50. 50 - 47 = 3

  2. Subtract the base adjustments from the base and add the differences:
    100 - 98 = 2
    50 - 47 = 3
    Sum of these adjustments = 2 + 3 = 5

  3. Calculate the final result:
For the first part: Base adjustment to be added = 100 - 5 = 95
    For the second part: 2 x 3 = 6

    Combine the results: 95 + 6 = 101

2. Vertical and Crosswise

This technique simplifies the addition of numbers with more digits. Here’s a brief guide:

Adding 123 and 456:

  1. Align the numbers vertically:

    123
    + 456
  2. Add the numbers column-wise, starting from the rightmost column:

    • Units place: 3 + 6 = 9
    • Tens place: 2 + 5 = 7
    • Hundreds place: 1 + 4 = 5

Combine these results to get 579.

These methods are particularly useful for mental math and can be quite efficient once you get the hang of them! If you’re interested in more detailed techniques or examples, let me know!
