Paper Plate Animals- Fun Crafts

Paper plate animals are a fun and versatile craft project for kids!

Materials Needed:

  • Paper plates
  • Construction paper (various colors)
  • Glue or glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Markers, crayons, or paint
  • Optional: Googly eyes, yarn, cotton balls

Instructions:

  1. Choose Your Animal: Decide which animal you want to create (e.g., lion, frog, owl).

  2. Prepare the Paper Plate:

    • For a basic face, use the paper plate as the base. You can paint it or cover it with colored paper if desired.
  3. Create Animal Features:

    • Lion: Cut out strips of yellow or orange construction paper for the mane. Glue them around the edge of the paper plate. Add a face with a brown or orange nose, and use black marker for the mouth and eyes. Glue on googly eyes or draw them on.
    • Frog: Cut out two large ovals from green construction paper for the eyes and glue them to the top of the plate. Add smaller white ovals for the eye pupils. Draw or cut out a wide mouth and nostrils, and glue them on. You can also make frog legs from green paper.
    • Owl: Cut out two large circles from colored paper for the eyes and smaller circles for the pupils. Glue them onto the paper plate. Add a beak using a triangle of orange paper and glue on some feathers (cut from colored paper) around the edges of the plate.
  4. Add Details:

    • Decorate your animal with additional features like ears, whiskers, or spots. Use markers, crayons, or additional cut-out paper shapes.
  5. Finishing Touches:

    • Let the glue dry completely. You can add any extra details like yarn for fur or cotton balls for a textured effect.

Tips:

  • Encourage creativity by letting kids choose their own colors and features.
  • For a more interactive experience, you can turn these into masks by attaching a stick to the bottom of the plate or adding elastic bands.

These paper plate animals are great for developing fine motor skills and sparking imaginative play!
